Sew 'n' Tell Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes July 22, 2010

The meeting started at 6:30. Carol rearranged her usual order of business by putting the most important item first. Thanking the Hospitality committee!

Charity Guild Quilts - Anne K - Anne brought several packages of fabric to be cut for kits, several quilt tops to envelope and 3 finished tops to be quilted. Remember, you don’t have to make a whole quilt, working on any part of the process is greatly appreciated! We are also making pillowcases. More about that later. Due to Sandy leaving the guild (and being Anne's only committee member), Anne was in need of help. Ros H and Nancy Fr volunteered to help her put kits together, etc.

Quilts for the Homeless - Sharon K will let us know as fall approaches when her church will hold their sit n sew meetings. Anyone in our guild is invited and encouraged to attend and help them produce these quilts. Currently, they have only 3 ladies making them and need our help.

Challenge Quilt - Edwardsville show is September 24/25 . If you want Diana to deliver your finished project to the organizers, please bring it to the August 26th meeting. You must have a sleeve for hanging and a label. If you have any questions please call Diana H. If you are going to deliver the quilt, check with Diana as to when it must be received to go in the show

Hospitality: Sharon K, Bea C and Paula N provided refreshments. As you know, if there is a group of quilters (or maybe even just one quilter) there will be food close by. Next month is: Jane G, Pam S and Dianna S
Julia G and Barbara T will be talking with various caterers regarding our Christmas dinner. They will have a full report in September.

Historian – During break Lisa T took head shots of all who were ready, for our soon to be history/pictorial booklet. If you didn’t get your picture taken this month, please be ready next month.

Jeanne K said they have enough items for The Friends of the Library’s basket . Any items donated will be held for next year.

Janice B was absent. Carol is to call her to discuss the pricing and construction of the quilt racks needed for Quilter’s Day Out. Carol reminded the members that we should have at least one item on display next year.

Activity of the Month - Sharon K - Becky B won the red, white and blue blocks.

August Activity: Fall themed fat quarter - Limit 3 blocks per person, drawing to be held, winner take all.

Round Robins were exchanged for the 3rd time. Again, we wowed each other with our creative and beautiful ideas. Thanks to those who were absent for sending your blocks with someone else. Thanks also to those who will deliver the absentee's blocks to them.

Carol reminded all if you have a special request (demo – activity – request a mentor) please make note of it on the yellow note pad at the sign in table.

Demos - Janice B has demos scheduled through November of this year. This month
Barbara T demonstrated how to make a Binded Prairie Point. Instructions will follow in a separate e-mail.

Sit and Sew was held at Lisa T house. There were 7 of us. Thanks Lisa. Next month Mary L will play host on August 10th at 6:00 pm. Mary will be sending directions, etc. closer to that date. If you plan to attend, please let her know. It’s nice to know how many to plan for. Last minute is okay too. Just please let her know. (Since the meeting directions have been e-mailed).

Carol F asked that we each make one pillowcase to be donated with the charity quilts in the fall. (Since the meeting the instructions have been e-mailed).

Show n Tell was again breathtaking. Hand work, machine quilting, machine embroidery, we have some amazing talent among us! Patsy S was asked to design a quilt which has been included in a just released book Creative Sewing Techniques by Machine.

Door Prizes were handed out. Anyone having notions, fabric, etc... to donate to the door prize pile, please bring it to the next meeting. We have decided to eliminate Quilting magazines from the door prizes to save time, but they can be placed on a separate table on an exchange basis.

Activity - Barbara T - If you know of any other upcoming quilting events please let Barbara T know so that she can get the info and share it with the rest of the guild. Carol F sent an e-mail regarding the Cincinnati Expo. Bonita W has plans to attend and stay overnight. If you are interested in going with Bonita, please call her.

Meeting adjourned at 8:45.
