6:00 Social
6:30 Meeting begins

Sew n Tell Minutes August 26, 2010

Carol F opened the meeting with a Thank You to the food committee and asked for committee reports.

Charity Quilts –
Anne K asked that any quilts and pillowcases be turned in at the September 23rd meeting. Quilts and pillowcases will be given to St. Elizabeth’s Home for unwed mothers and children. If they don’t need them all the remainder will be given to Providence Women’s Shelter.

Challenge Quilts –
Several Quilts were turned in at the meeting. If you want to display your quilt at the Edwardsville Quilt Show it can be delivered to the church on Thursday morning, September 23rd OR drop it off at The Quilting Bee anytime (during shop hours) prior to September 23rd.
Get that challenge done! It’s fun to see all the different interpretations. NOTE: your quilt will not be judged! This is for fun.

Activity of the Month –
One, two or three 12 ½” unfinished block(s). NO restrictions. It can be an orphan block or a new block. This is a great opportunity (for the winner) to create a sampler quilt!

Quilter’s Day Out - Janice B presented two different design choices for the QDO quilt racks. One made of PVC (cost $26.59 ea.) the other galvanized steel (cost $28.48 ea.). It was decided that we would have one galvanized steel rack built so we could see what it would look like. No need to build a sample PVC since we have all seen this style. There was concern expressed that the galvanized steel may create ‘dirty hands’, which will not work well with the hanging of the quilts. Thank You to Janice’s husband for designing, pricing and building the sampler.

Christmas dinner/meeting - Julia G presented us with three different options for the Christmas dinner for which the guild treasury will pay. They are Sam’s ($13), Tommy’s ($10.95) and Marks Feed Store ($9.00). It was noted that Tommy’s would be the best option as to price and choices. Barbara Thorn will have other options at the September meeting at which time we will make a decision. It was also noted that depending on the number of quilt racks we have built, we may each be responsible for a nominal portion of the dinner bill. More detail in September.

Refreshments -
Pam S, Jane G and Dianna S. September meeting volunteers are Mary L,
Sally A and Barbara P. Julia G, committee chair, needs volunteers for the November meeting.

Carol asked those members who participated in the Kentucky State Fair quilt judging (as worker bees) to tell us about their experience. Overall it was a great experience.
