Sew n Tell Minutes November 18, 2010

Thank you to Rachel, Sheila, Mary and Becky F for providing refreshments

Carol reported that she and Lisa bought fabric for the Shriner's raffle quilt at the 30% off Forget-Me-Knot sale. Now all we have to do is cut, sew, sandwich and hand quilt! Lisa is cutting kits and will have them ready after the first of the year. More about that in January and/or February.

The tables were arranged in a U shape and everyone seemed to be happy with the layout. It's nice to look at people across the way instead of the back of their head!.

Committee reports:

Charity quilts - Anne said we can always use fabric

Refreshments - Julia passed around a sign up sheet for next year

Demo - Janice has demos lined up through February

We voted on specific food items for the Christmas dinner -
Roast beef , fried chicken, green beans, broccoli and mashed potatoes. The meal also includes rolls, pie, tea and coffee.

Sit and Sew was held at Mary L's house. There were 12 of us. We have fun. We share our different techniques and it's fun to see what others are working on.

Officer's and Committee chairperson's were elected. Refer to Carol's earlier e-mail.

Jeannie suggested forming a "Shriner's quilt" committee.

During break, Darlene and Janice showed us how to make a "Two Seam" purse. Thank you for bring sewing machines so we could actually make one!

Show and Tell - Anne's "Fun and Done" quilt class participants showed their finished projects and as usual, all the other projects that were shared were fabulous.

Door prizes were won.

I've enjoyed the past two years of documenting our meetings. It's time to pass the pen, and I'm delighted to pass it to Bea!

Have a great Thanksgiving and hope to see you ALL at our Christmas dinner.

Sew n Tell Minutes October 28, 2010

Sew n Tell minutes October 28, 2010

We attended out first meeting in our new home! We can have the room set up to our liking. After several meetings we might know what that is.
There are 8 TV’s around the room which will be used during Quilter’s Day Out. We will be able to use the other room during QDO too. The in house cook (Linda) will provide the food. She is also preparing our Christmas dinner. Date to be announced. $10 per person, however, the guild treasury will pay $5 (1/2) of the charge.

Visitors were introduced

The first QDO board meeting is to be held Nov. 2nd. Lisa T will be sending minutes pertaining to QDO.

Carol asked for volunteers to help Michael B with the quilt rack construction for QDO.

Lisa asked that we all thank Carol for finding us a new home. She visited lots of people and places. From the information Lisa shared, some not so nice!

Our rent is free, however, we have to make one king size hand quilted quilt per year for the Shriner’s to raffle with proceeds going to their hospital charities. Carol had 4 quilt patterns and asked each of us to choose our favorite for the group to make for the raffle.
Jeannie K has opened her home to the quilting process once the quilt top is put together. We will likely form a day group and an evening group. Details at a later date.

QDO is March 19, 2010 (10 am to 3 pm)

Demo – Diana H demonstrated the disappearing 4 patch.

November demo: Darlene will show us how to put together the “two seams” purse/bag. Bring an 18” or 24” finished quilt square (that means top/batting/backing sandwiched together with binding as in a finished quilt). Darlene will have a sewing machine and stitch them up for us.

Carol F passed out the job descriptions for all the offices and committees. We will vote on officers and committee chairpersons in November

October Sit and Sew was held at Lisa T’s house. There were 12 members present.

New Albany Library “Friends of the Library” auction is Saturday, November 13th. Silent auction begins at 6:00 pm. The items that guild members donated made a very nice basket. Jeannie would be thrilled if we all showed up to bid on it! The “Friends” are celebrating their 10th anniversary. There is also a book sale at the library on the 1st and 3rd Saturday’s of the month.
